For starters, the reformer is not a torture device.

Even if it looks like one…
…and even if your muscles are sore for days after. Because PSA: Pilates is not just stretching.

My Take.

Exercise should feel good (for your mind, too).

That doesn’t mean it’s not challenging; I will make you work…hard. But I teach with encouragement and insight, not with shame. It means that it’s not a punishment, and that you’ll feel more connected with (and appreciative of!) your body at the end of each hour.

Human bodies are not textbook diagrams
(nor should they be.)

Your body does a lot for you, and it’s organic matter: not machine. I work with a deep sense of skeletal variation to make each movement work deeply and efficiently for whatever you have going on, whether that’s a chronically grumpy hip, a tight lower back, an old shoulder injury—or significant musculoskeletal or neurological challenges.

There is no one “Pilates body” (that idea is harmful nonsense).

You have a body! You’re doing Pilates! I have no time for gatekeeping of any kind, particularly not when it’s keeping you from being stronger, feeling better, and moving throughout your day with more ease. Pilates is for all, and I welcome (and encourage!) anyone of any size, age, experience, fitness/mobility level, gender, etc. (And I particularly love teaching prenatal and postnatal clients; those with movement restrictions, imbalances, or recurring injuries; and those who are seeking exercise for mental health reasons.)

Locations.

I teach from The Space Pilates Studio. They have Balanced Body reformers, chairs, towers, cadillacs, arcs, a ladder barrel—and an abundance of natural light and room to move.

Flatiron.

My home turf, and directly off the A train. I work with a Balanced Body reformer, chair, and arc. The lower price? Only fair: I have no commute. The real sell, though? My dog will be there.

Inwood.

Want to work out while your baby is napping? Traveling? Commute time to the studio or gym keeping you sedentary? I build class around the space and props you have—and skillfully kick your butt and offer detailed adjustments through the screen.
